The Institute of Classical Osteopathy

Welcome to our website. The Institute of Classical Osteopathy (ICO) is an independent organisation of osteopaths, practitioners and students with an interest in the Principles and Practice of Classical Osteopathy, as described here.

Current membership stands at 78 UK members and 112 overseas members from 18 countries including Belgium, Canada, Japan, Spain, Italy and Sweden.

The ICO (originally called The Institute of Applied Technique) was established in 1956 by the late John Wernham and T.E Hall. Their aim, was to bring together like minded osteopaths, to discuss and explore the full breadths of osteopathic care, taking information gathered by early pioneering Osteopaths in the US and the UK, most notably John Martin Littlejohn. We have been teaching and publishing ever since.

Foundation Course: The ICO runs an annual Foundation Course for osteopaths wishing to further their interest in Classical Osteopathy. The course consists of 10 weekends (September to June) which when successfully completed leads to Associate Membership of the ICO.

Diploma Course: We have developed a diploma course that will be available for associate members who wish to continue to further advance their osteopathic skills.

Publications: We currently have 13 books and 4 DVDs available for purchase.

The ICO is a registered charity and any profits go towards education and subsidising the London Clinic of Classical Osteopathy, our teaching clinic located in Holloway, North London. Part of the diploma course will include time spent at the clinic gaining hands on experience guided by ICO tutors. For more information on the clinic, click here
